Last night Ella had guitar practice. Sophia had swimming. We had … all of that and just general “life.”
You get it. One thing we always hear from friends and clients is getting a balanced dinner on the table is tough because of time … or lack of.
But eating together is key. It’s key for health, connection and conversation. For this reason we make dinner a priority for our family. Sometimes it’s simply a rotisserie chicken from the store, paired with some veggies and instant rice.
If one of us has more time, dinner can be a bit more “elaborate” or complicated, but with our kids, taste is priority #1. For us, it’s that connection around the food and of course the health of the meal. One way we satisfy everyone is by using the simple equation below. We can still enjoy meals we love while balancing our plates:
Frozen entrée + fruit & veggie + milk or water = A Balanced Plate
One product we recently found in the freezer case that makes dinnertime simple for us is Stouffer’s Slow Cooker Starters. We’re huge fans of the slow cooker because of its time-saving potential. With Slow Cooker Starters, you simply add fresh protein (chicken or beef, depending on the product), the contents of the package and let it cook for 6-8 hours. Done.
The idea with this is to build a delicious, balanced plate by pairing your slow-cooked meal (or frozen meal, pizza, etc.) with a veggie/fruit. Voila. Tastes great, is fast to prep and helps you feel good by feeding your family a balanced meal.
The other part we can’t overlook is the convenience – and most importantly, convenience made delicious. Between work, school and after-school activities, it’s hard to slow down to connect, and even more of a hurdle to bring a well-rounded meal to the table. Frozen entrees are a delicious solution because most of the chopping and prepping are done for you.
